University Roundtable (Day Two)
University and research institutions will have the opportunity to participate in a best practices roundtable moderated by Samela Husakovic of UNSW. This event aims to highlight export controls compliance challenges in the higher education and research sectors and aims to provide participants with insights on how to enable best-practices in resource-constrained environments.

Commonwealth Roundtable (Day One)
Commonwealth staff will have the opportunity to come together to discuss recent developments in US and AU export controls and identify ways in which their organisations can respond to these changes. Best practices and tools for enabling and monitoring compliance will be discussed.
Commonwealth Breakout (Day Two)
Commonwealth staff will have the opportunity to learn from export-controls experts and one another in these tailored breakout sessions on the afternoon of Day One. The focus will be on best practices for responding to common issues.

Samela Husakovic
University and Research Roundtable Moderator
Samela Husakovic is the Director of Research Ethics & Compliance at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). She is responsible for overseeing all aspects of research governance, including ethics, clinical trials, gene technology, biosecurity, and defence trade controls to ensure the highest ethical standards, integrity, and regulatory compliance.
With deep expertise in the defence trade controls field, Samela is passionate about advocating for the research sector’s critical role in supporting best practices in export controls that align with national interests, while facilitating scientific innovation and collaboration.

Lisa Le
Commonwealth Roundtable Moderator
Lisa is a Strategic Procurement and Commercial Management Consultant at Elysium EPL. Lisa brings over a decade of commercial expertise within Government, Defence and Defence Industry sectors, with a strong focus on strategic government procurement, contract management, export and import operations, and stakeholder engagement. She seamlessly integrates her legal acumen with a deep understanding of Defence’s commercial environment and export control compliance obligations.
Her advisory experience spans a wide range of Defence programs, including LAND19 Ph7B, SEA 1439 Ph6, and DDG. Lisa is known for her client-centric approach, enabling her to adapt quickly to diverse operational environments and deliver practical, commercially agile solutions.
