International Trade Advisors is a Sydney-based boutique consultancy serving multinationals and SMEs in the Australian defence industry since 2011.
We have assisted prime defence contractors, SMEs , research institutions and the Commonwealth with creating cost-effective compliance programs that are tailored to their needs. Our focus is on helping Australian entities understand U.S. and Australian export controls as well as offering guidance in relation to on-going management of an effective governance framework that considers the risks of working with export-controlled technology.
Our service offerings include risk reviews, training, assistance with technology classification, and understanding the regulatory requirements under the ITAR, EAR and Australian export controls. We work with US and UK advisors (as needed) to conduct export controls compliance gap analysis against regulatory requirements, and draft uplifted compliance processes and procedures. We create custom-tailored training for staff on export controls requirements for entities in Australia, their U.S., UK and other foreign subsidiaries, and for Australian subsidiaries of multinationals to ensure the entire organisation is across multinational export controls requirements.
About Eva Galfi
Eva Galfi is a leading international trade and export control expert based in Sydney, Australia, with over 25 years of experience helping companies of all sizes understand and comply with complex export control regimes. As Principal at International Trade Advisors, she specialises in guiding Australian industry—ranging from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to large multinationals—through U.S. export control regimes (notably ITAR and EAR), as well as Australian export control laws.
Her professional journey includes senior consulting roles with several Big Four accounting firms—PwC, Deloitte, and KPMG. These experiences gave her deep exposure to the varying risk-profiles, resource constraints, and compliance cultures across sectors.
In response to a gap she observed in the market for pragmatic, affordable, and business-friendly export compliance advice, Eva founded International Trade Advisors. The firm’s mission is to simplify export control and trade compliance responsibilities so that regulatory obligations are met without imposing undue cost or burden on clients. It delivers services such as compliance program design or upgrades, compliance audits, staff training, drafting policies and manuals, conducting risk assessments, classifying controlled technology, and helping companies become “defence-ready.” While based in Sydney, Eva’s consultancy spans Australia and New Zealand.
A recognised authority in her field, Eva holds several formal qualifications. She earned her M.B.A. in International Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (USA), and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. She has earned credentials such as Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer (CUSECO), Certified ITAR Professional (CIP), and is a licensed Customs Broker.
Her expertise extends beyond one-on-one consulting; Eva is an educator and author. She develops and delivers practical training on U.S. and Australian export controls—both publicly and as custom in-house training for engineering, legal, risk, compliance, and management teams. She hosts an annual U.S. Export Controls Conference, which brings practitioners together to understand changes in regulatory frameworks, case studies, risk assessments and best practices.
Eva has worked with organisations across numerous sectors including aerospace, defence, automotive, mining, medical devices, high-tech, and consumer goods. Her client base includes firms listed in ASX 20 and Forbes 500, as well as smaller firms seeking compliance programs aligned with U.S. export control requirements.
She serves the broader trade community as well through leadership roles in international trade, including co-editing the Australian Guide for Export Controls and Best Practices and as co-chair of the technical data labelling standards working group. She has held several board positions with the Organisation of Women in International Trade (OWIT) at both local and international levels.
Eva Galfi is known for her pragmatic, results-oriented approach. Her style emphasises clear, usable compliance policies and training, realistic risk assessments, and building governance frameworks that integrate with commercial realities rather than imposing bureaucracy for its own sake. Her work helps firms not only avoid regulatory risks and penalties, but also position themselves competitively—especially where collaboration with government defence and export-controlled technology projects is involved.
